Findings from the Housing Standards Review were out for consultation since August 2013 the deadline for responses is 22nd October 2013.

The aim of the review is to rationalise the large number of codes, standards, rules, regulations and guidance. Reduce bureaucracy and costs on house builders whilst supporting growth, promoting quality, sustainability, safety and accessibility. 

Some of the intended changes are: 

- 100 standards reduced to 10

- 1500 pages of guidance down to 80

- Code for sustainable homes to be phased out

- National consistency and clarity

- Minimum space and access standards

- A review of Secure By Design, Lifetime Homes   Wheelchair Housing Design Guide, London Housing Design Guide
