Steel staircase within courtyard showing linking of buildings View image

Construction works involved the redevelopment, extension and alterations to existing shops and offices.  AIS were involved in the significant refurbishment of  Asprey flagship store in New Bond Street, working with Architects Foster and Partners, Wallis as main contractor and Simpson (York) Ltd for fit-out works. The project resulted in 1700 m² of retail space and 3500 m² of offices, workshops, staff and stockroom facilities and involved major work to Georgian and Victorian listed buildings located on the site.

The site comprises five storeys and a key feature was the formation of an atrium linking 5 separate historically listed buildings with a courtyard environment and whilst fire safety for the premises was justified with a comprehensive fire strategy, the linking together and rationalisation of layout meant that arrangements were substantially simplified.  A structurally challenging elliptical 24 tonne steel staircase is a significant feature within the courtyard below the glazed roof requiring extensive proof using computer models to demonstrate compliance with Part A (Structure). The extensive refurbishment works involved major construction elements as well as highly sensitive, high quality fitting out works.
