Blackfriars Station is being rebuilt by Network Rail as part of the Thameslink Programme to increase capacity and improve accessibility to and through Central London and to accommodate the new longer and more frequent trains.  Works involved the demolition of the existing station to construction of a brand new station.  This included a new modern interchange linking the Underground with mainline Thameslink Services.  Provision of improved means of escape, new lifts providing step free access, new escalators and staircases, new north and south station entrances, new integrated and enlarged ticket hall, widening of platforms, new concourse and station operations room, new sub stations and staff accommodation and facilities.

AIS were appointed by Network Rail to work as an integral part of a Network Rail Team and on behalf of Network Rail to provide compliance engineering and assurance across a range of asset areas including monitoring of works and asset protection on the Thameslink Programme  (Blackfriars and Farringdon Station Redevelopments and the new Borough Viaduct).
